MABAS 154 IST
In Partnership with Door County Fire Chief’s Association
History of Door County IST
In January 2022, Gibraltar Fire Chief Andy Bertges asked Jody Weitman to form a group to aid emergency victims and support responders.
Sister Bay Fire Chief Chris Hecht and other
community members joined the team and the
MABAS 154 Incident Support Team (IST)
was established in May 2022 under the
Door County Fire Chiefs Association.
Mission of Door County IST
To assist in providing for the non-emergent but immediate physical and emotional needs of victims of emergencies occurring within the Door County response area and to provide for on-scene personnel.
Chief Andy Bertges
Gibraltar Fire Dept
“IST takes so much off the Incident Commander’s back”
Chief Chris Hecht
Sister Bay Fire Dept
In reference to the Rowley’s Bay Fire: “I didn’t need to worry about what was happening. The fact that no one came to me and said, ‘we
need more water’, ‘we need more food’, ‘where will the people sleep?’
IST took care of all of this and its the beauty of what they do.”
